marked C in the attached file.

II. On the 9th.July 1883 the Company applied for permission

to lay another cable between North Point and Kowloon in the

same position as the existing cables Permission was grant-

ed-after the Secretary of State's sanction had been obtained

upon the same conditions as formerly. (See Col.Sec's.letter

No.1376 of 27th. August, 1883.)

III.

On March 5th.1884 the Company applied for permission

to lay another cable from North Point to Kowloon. It was grant-

in Col.Sec's letter No, 249 of the 11th

March; in which the Company was informed that the Goverment

reserved the right to revoke the concession at any time

without compensation.

IV. On September 1st. 1891 the Company reported that their cables (damaged by the anchors of ships) were to be repaired

and that they desired to lay an additional cable from the

existing cable but at North Point to that at Hunghom. The requisite permission was granted by the Governor and conveyed to the Company in the Col.Sec's letter No.1648 of the 11th.

Y. on the 24th.March 1897 the Director of Public Works trans- mitted a letter (dated 22nd.March) from the Manager of the China and Japan Telephone Co.Ltd. asking if his Company might
